Iceexpress progressive prosthetics

Infusing the resinOur good friend Glumur Baldvinsson introduced us to the Comprehensive Community Based Rehabilitation in Tanzania (CCBRT) in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania.  The CCBRT is a Tanzanian NGO established in 1994 to support people living with disabilities http://www.ccbrt.or.tz/  It is now the single largest indigenous provider of disability and rehabilitation services in the country.

We were kindly invited to visit the CCBRT Disability Hospital which houses the rehabilitation department.  Beginning of February Johan, Siggi and Bjarni made the trip to the Tanzanian capital, armed with fitting equipment.  We were greeted by Agusto Zambaldo, Erwin Telemans and Walter Tuni.  Following a presentation about OKP, Johan and Siggi fitted two amputees with new below knee prostheses.  Despite some time constraint, the fittings went well.  As an added bonus, Erwin arranged for us to meet representatives from the Health Ministry of Tanzania.

The teamAll and all the trip was both fun and fruitful.  We were very impressed with the high standard of the work and knowhow at the CCBRT orthopaedic workshop and we very much hope to be able to partner up in the future.  Our best thanks to everyone.
