Iceexpress progressive prosthetics
Our friend Raquela Carrasco VanWoert introduced us to the Asociacion Dominicana de Rehabilitacion (ADR) in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic (DR). Raquela was born in the DR and she is the founder of Paso a Paso, a NGO based in the USA looking to help amputees in DR and other Caribbean countries. The ADR was founded in 1963 by Mary Perez de Marranzini who still remains active with the organization. The centre in Santo Domingo is very impressive and the services extensive. The orthopaedic workshop produces around 350 prostheses each year.
In June, Ossur, Bjarni, Bjorg and Anthony paid a visit and were greeted by Raquela, Maria Perez de Marranzini and Arturo Perez Gavino, Executive National Director of the centre. Following a fruitful meeting, the prosthetists and technicians at the centre helped Ossur to fit two below amputees with new prostheses (Elvis and Eddie).
All in all we were greatly impressed with what we saw and especially the good technical knowhow in the prosthetic team. We hope to do much work with Raquela and the ADR in the future. Thanks to everyone for a great afternoon.
